Too busy working to blog last month: challenged myself to do one sale a weekend. That means since I last wrote i've done four. at least i can say i survived.
Obviously all sales/festivals/fairs are different, i've tried a representative sample: open-air market, church-school basement, another school outdoors, and a high-end art, craft and film mix. The thing they most have in common is that none of them has been a big money-maker for me. with the exception of the last event, i felt lucky to have "made my table." that means i got to take home money over and above what i paid to participate.
the other thing they have all had in common is the pleasure of meeting fun and interesting people, both other vendors and customers. it's been great to finally hear as many words of praise as i can stand: talented, original, really cool, wow--and to hear them repeatedly. i need that kind of overkill to continue to believe.
it's also really exciting to find out about other opportunities to show or sell from other people at these events. i finally understand why networking can be fun, not just necessary or expedient or a grueling drag.
i'll have to write more about each experience in more depth later. it's after 1 am and the cats are annoyed at me being up so late.
a sadly lousy photo of my newest: "seventeen spanish roses." i based it on a news item i saw about archaeologist finding the mass grave of women murdered during the spanish civil war because they had relatives opposed to franco.
